A colourful A1-sized poster ‘Get to Know Birds of Latvia II’, featuring the species of birds of prey found in Latvia – eagles, hawks, kites, owls and falcons – with illustrations and the Latvian and Latin names for each species.

Around 380 species of birds are known in Latvia; however, only two-thirds of this total regularly nest, overwinter or pass through here. The rest happen to stray here by chance during their migration or foraging. The publication ‘Get to Know Birds of Latvia’ explores native birds, including rare species that are not seen every year. Birds of prey form a distinctive part of Latvia’s fauna. This publication features native eagles, hawks, falcons, kites, owls and buzzards. Among the species that occasionally appear is the black vulture. Birds of prey are extremely diverse and are by no means closely related to one another in a systematic sense. With the exception of the Eurasian sparrowhawk or the common buzzard in rural areas, many of the species listed here are seen only very rarely from a great distance or whilst in flight. Due to changes in their habitats, almost all of our birds of prey are endangered and are therefore listed in the Red List; the number of breeding pairs of some species is estimated to be negligible.
