A colourful A1-sized poster ‘Get to Know Birds of Latvia I’.
It features species of waterbirds found in Latvia – geese and grebes – with illustrations and the Latvian and Latin names for each species.
Around 380 species of birds are known in Latvia; however, only two-thirds of this total regularly nest, overwinter or pass through here. The rest happen to stray here by chance during their migration or foraging. The publication ‘Get to Know Birds of Latvia’ looks at local birds, including rare species that are not seen every year. This section focuses on waterbirds: various ducks, geese, swans, mergansers and grebes. Ducks are characterised by obvious differences in the appearance of the sexes; females are usually more plain and less conspicuous in colour than males – illustrations of both sexes are provided for these species. Overgrown water bodies, particularly coastal lakes and fish ponds, are the most typical habitats where the birds featured in this publication can be observed. Discover the waterbirds of Latvia!
